MPD (Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, D.C.) RETIRED badge / gold. Below the "RETIRED" panel, there are two areas available for engraving.
This is the original retirement badge issued to all ranks, Officer, Sergeant, Captain, etc. A recent change of issuing members of Officer rank a silver colored badge, (similar to their issued patrol badge), was made. If you would like to order a copy of your issued "new style" RETIRED OFFICER badge, please see that product also listed in the MPD / Badges section.
This gold badge is still issued to ranks above Officer with the appropriate rank, etc.
We offer this badge in several options; flat, curved, with pin & catch backing, or with a wallet clip.
How to choose your options:
FLAT or CURVED:
Flat is best for keeping in wallet/credential case or using on belt clip or neck chain holders because it has a lower profile and keeps the holders less bulky. Curved is best for wearing on garment, (which is the standard issue style).
PIN & CATCH or WALLET CLIP attachment:
Pin & Catch is standard for attaching to uniforms, etc., but the Wallet Clip has less depth and is more durable. Wallet Clips are ideal for a badge that will only be used for a wallet/credential case so as not to add unnecessary thickness to your already thick leather case.
SHELL BACK or SOLID BACK:
Shell Back refers to the production style that the MPD badges have been from the 1800's all the way to the most recent style change. The shell back badges show the reverse moulding of the front of the badge. The badges are plenty durable, but slightly thinner than the Solid Back badges. The Solid Back badges were created in the early 2000's when all MPD members' badge numbers were re-numbered in groups by rank and the individual badge was given a serial number for record keeping purposes. The design prior to the current styles had an open cut-out, (also available on this site), in which the numerals were soldered into the opening. The numerals occassionaly broke off, thus making it difficult to determine whose badge it was. The current badges have the previous opening filled in. That panel is where the badge number is engraved and enameled. Solid Back badges are needed if serial number engraving is desired, but these options are totally irrelevant for badges which will be used for "display" situations, (showing only the front of the badge).
Be sure to enter your badge number.
